Rabat – Delegations from the Moroccan army and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation are currently taking part in an international meeting organized by Nigeria and AFRICOM to discuss terrorism-related issues in Abuja, Nigeria. At its Monday opening, the event convened participants from fifty countries from Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The Moroccan delegation will present its peacekeeping operations, as one of the many countries that have contributed peacekeepers to help bring stability to the conflict-stricken African nation. Since it was established in 2014, MINUSCA has deployed over 12,000 troops to the country to protect civilians, following concerns over CAR’s “security, humanitarian, human rights, and political crisis.” Earlier this month, Moroccan peacekeepers carried out a joint operation with law enforcement to rescue 15 people who were taken hostage in the village of Koumboy. The operation of the Royal Armed Forces and Central African Armed Forces led a rescue of 15 people who had been taken hostage by the so-called Lord’s Resistance Army. The hostage-taking by the rebellion groups took place on March 30, in Koumbou, near the eastern city of Obo in the Central African Republic. In October 2017, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres paid tribute to Moroccan and Cambodian blue helmets during his visit to the Central African Republic.
10 August 2007On the eve of Sierra Leone’s first presidential and parliamentary elections since the departure of United Nations peacekeepers two years ago, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appealed to voters in the West African nation to ensure a peaceful ballot. Saturday’s vote will be the country’s second since the end of the decade-long civil war in 2002, and the first since the withdrawal of the UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) in December 2005. While pleased that the elections will take place tomorrow, as scheduled, Mr. Ban is “deeply concerned about recent and ongoing incidents of violence involving supporters of main Sierra Leonean political parties,” according to a statement issued by his spokesperson. “The Secretary-General emphasizes that free, fair and credible elections, which reflect the wishes of the people of Sierra Leone, are crucial to securing the peace that has been built in Sierra Leone and to paving the way for development and prosperity in the future.”The UN Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and other international partners have provided technical assistance to the country’s National Electoral Commission to ensure that the preparations for the election meet international standards. Mr. Ban paid tribute to the international partners that have provided logistical, financial and technical support to the National Electoral Commission, and commended the Commission for making the necessary arrangements on schedule. Preparations for tomorrow’s polls included the training of 37,000 polling staff to ensure a credible election day.
A feuding neighbour accidentally killed his rival by stuffing a potato in his flue in a row over gas bills.Daniel Burgess blocked the inflow and outflow gas pipes of Michael Horner’s house during a Christmas holiday attack in which he also superglued the door locks. He used a large raw potato to shut off the pipe through which exhaust gases should have been vented, with the result that 48-year-old Mr Horner died of carbon monoxide poisoning.Burgess was taking revenge because he believed Mr Horner had stolen his pre-paid gas cards, with the result he could not heat his home in Newlyn, Cornwall, over Christmas 2015. He wants to express his very deep regret. He is profoundly sorry. His intention was to stop the boiler working and that is what would have happened but for the tragic coincidence of the faultKate Brunner QC He told him: “You accept your unlawful and dangerous act in interfering with the flue of Mr Horner’s boiler in the way you did caused his death. He had serious health issues and you knew of his disability and vulnerability.”Mr Horner was your neighbour and had been your friend but you had fallen out and you acted to get your own back against a perceived grievance that he was the cause of the loss of your heating.”You did what you did deliberately. You went to considerable lengths and you knew what you were doing. Of crucial importance is that you had no intention of doing any physical harm.”Your plan was simply to stop his boiler from working and make him cold. I accept your remorse is genuine and your culpability is at the lower end.”Mr Paul Dunkels QC, prosecuting, said there was a background of ill feeling with accusations of theft and a previous confrontation at a bus stop.Mr Horner suffered from Huntingdon’s Disease and had heart problems, both of which restricted his mobility. He returned home after visiting friends for Christmas dinner in 2015 to find his flat was cold because the gas was turned off at the outside meter. He turned it on again but when he woke up on Boxing Day it had been turned off again and he was trapped inside because all his locks had been superglued and filled with foam.Police freed him and visited Burgess. They found dents in the communal wall where he had hit it with a hammer and warned him to leave Mr Horner alone.A friend alerted the police on December 29 and Mr Horner was found dead in his living room. The true cause only emerged when police found the flue blocked by a large potato and expanding foam.Traces of foam were found on Burgess’s clothing, his fingerprints were on an empty can in his garden and a partial DNA match was found on the potato.Mr Dunkels said a safety device should have made the boiler cut out rather than carry on pumping out carbon monoxide but a cap had been removed.Kate Brunner QC, defending, said Burgess suffers from paranoid schizophrenia which led him to blame his neighbour for the theft of his gas cards. She said: “He wants to express his very deep regret. He is profoundly sorry. His intention was to stop the boiler working and that is what would have happened but for the tragic coincidence of the fault.”He did not intend or foresee any harm. He could not perceive the boiler’s safety system would fail. His mental illness may go some way to explaining his bizarre actions.” His plan was to make his neighbour Mr Horner suffer in the same way by sabotaging his heating, but a fault in his boiler meant that the automatic fail-safe system did not work and the neighbour’s house filled with gas.Police found Mr Horner dead on his living room floor wearing just underpants and with the heating turned up to 60C.Tests showed that the fumes would have become fatal in his kitchen within 14 minutes of the boiler being switched on, with the carbon monoxide spreading to other rooms shortly afterwards.Burgess, 38, of Newlyn, admitted manslaughter and was jailed for two years and eight months by Judge Geoffrey Mercer QC, at Exeter Crown Court.
‘Star Wars Pinball’ Has Your Favorite Brand in Ball Form‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Was Final Mission From Late Nintendo President Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s upcoming Project Scorpio represent the peak of modern console technology. Power doesn’t mean everything, however, as the two systems’ raw horse power doesn’t appear to make them more desirable. According to a recent survey, folks in the United States are more interested in the comparatively weaker console/handheld hybrid Nintendo Switch.According to the Nielsen Games 360 Report, 16 percent of gamers aged 13 and above said they would buy a Nintendo Switch. 15 percent said they would buy a PlayStation 4 Pro, while 13 percent said they wanted a Scorpio. These percentages come from a pool of over 2,000 participants. For non-gamers, 12 percent want a Switch, 11 percent a PS4 Pro, and 9 percent a Scorpio (a system, we should note, has yet to be fully unveiled).Things are a bit different when participants were asked about their interest for the standard PS4 and Xbox One. 21 percent of gamers and 15 percent of general audiences want to buy a standard PS4. 17 percent of gamers and 12 percent of non-gamers desired an Xbox One. General audiences seem to have the same level of interest for Xbox One and Switch. The report also broke down awareness of each platform. 77 percent of gamers 13 and older have heard of the PS4, while 27 percent know about the PS4 Pro. 72 percent of those polled know about the Xbox One, with 14 percent for Scorpio. Amusingly, 9 percent of those polled have no knowledge of any of these systems. On the general consumer side, 69 percent know about the PS4, 61 percent know about Xbox One, and 22 percent know about Switch. 21 percent have knowledge about the PS4 Pro, while only 11 percent know about Scorpio. While they may change following E3 and into the holidays, seeing these sort of statistics is always good for perspective. The Switch seems to be in a good position as far as gamer awareness in concerned. General audience interest seems to be on the low-end, but it’s not bad considering it’s the same as Xbox One. As far as the PS4 Pro and Scorpio are concerned, these numbers prove upgraded systems aren’t as sought-after or important as rabid fanboys think they are.Want to learn more? In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court today declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. That means the status quo will continue in Alaska, where same-sex marriage was legalized in October.Download AudioBut for Juneau-raised performing artist Seneca Harper, the decision will change how he feels while traveling in the Lower 48. He married his partner last year in Washington State.“It’s going to be nice to be able to visit more conservative areas of the country and say, ‘Oh I’m sorry, oh actually, I’m not sorry at all’ and to unapologetically exist as who I am with my husband and hold his hand that has a ring on it and be proud of that.”Joshua Decker is the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska. The ACLU led the first marriage equality case back in 1970 and they were plaintiffs in today’s case. He says today’s decision affirms that same-sex relationships need to be respected everywhere in the nation.“We think when you look back on today in the future, today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision is going to be right up there with Brown v. the Board of Education when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down segregation in the schools.”Former Lt. Gov. and state lawmaker Loren Leman says including today’s decision as a win for the civil rights movement is demeaning to minority groups, like black people and Alaska Natives, who he says, really needed civil rights protections. As a senator, Leman led the 1998 effort to amend the Alaska Constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.“I believe it was so important for Alaska to protect its definition of marriage, which was in statute, but to protect it in constitution. Marriage has always throughout history been a union of a man and a woman and to change the definition to something else is a diminishment of the institution of marriage.”In 1998, almost 70 percent of Alaska voters agreed with Leman. Pollsters found public opinion swinging for the first time in favor of same-sex marriage in 2014.Juneau Republican Rep. Cathy Muñoz sponsored a bill last session that would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. She sees marriage equality as a step forward.“It recognizes a basic right and I think that’s important. It’s progress. I know that a number of people in our community will benefit and as a matter of fact, I look forward to attending a wedding in August and now that this decision has happened, I think they can have much more to celebrate.”But there’s more work to do. Muñoz’s anti-discrimination bill wasn’t heard this year, but she hopes it’ll get a fair chance in the 2016 legislative session.

The Rick and Morty season two double disc DVD/Blu Ray is already obviously loaded with some great episodes of the show, but the bonus content on the discs is what really stands out. The commentaries and animatics let fans really dig deep into how each episode was made. Each episode has at least one commentary and one animatic, and certain special episodes like “Mortynight Run” and “Total Rickall” feature second commentary tracks with notable Rick and Morty fans like video game writers Erik Wolpaw, Jay Pinkerton, and Cabe Newell (on “Run”) and WWE’s Sheamus with “Real” Abed Gheith (on “Rickall”).There are also deleted animatics, like an alternate ending to the Stealy show from “Interdimensional Cable 2”, and video from the season two wrap party where the band Chaos Chaos performed. Their song “Do You Feel It?” appeared at the end of “Auto Erotic Assimilation.” The packaging comes with a guide for your Plumbus illustrated by series artist Erica Hayes that can be read in both English and an alien language (the jury is out on if the Plumbus manual can be used to translate writing on the show).Besides those extra bonuses, which are obviously awesome just for existing, some of the juciest details about the show can be plumbed from the depths of the discs. Here are our favorite tidbits of information buried in the Rick and Morty season two DVD/Blu Ray set.Krombopulos Michael is the same species as the Galactic FederationDuring Andy Daly’s popular guest spot as alien assassin Krombopulos Michael in the commentary track for “Mortynight Run,” Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland reveal that the character is of the same species as the ones that serve the Galactic Federation. Because this episode is earlier on in the season, they also went back and planted the Galactic Federation symbol on the facility that was holding Fart (voiced by Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement). The co-creators of the show reveal that K. Michael is probably part of a higher caste race in the insect species, so his body design is sleeker and doesn’t include the face pinchers seen on the Galactic Federation goons in “The Wedding Squanchers” and in the very first episode of the series. The assassin and his girlfriend are both part of the same higher race of bug person, and Harmon points out the rich political backdrop that is suggested in K. Michael’s few scenes. Do the leaders of the Galactic Federation look like him? Is his race some sort of insurgent power?Roiland and Harmon make it clear they want Daly back on the show (Justin hadn’t even watched Review until after the voice recording session), even though Krombopulos Michael returning would require some twisted multi-verse logic.Interestingly enough, Reddit user Fancy Skink guessed that K. Michael was related to the Galactic Federation Goons a full ten months ago.Beth’s Storyline moves past Jerry in Season 3The episode “Big Trouble in Little Sanchez” isolates Beth and Jerry on a planet where they go through couples therapy on another planet (where guest voice Jim Rash plays an alien therapist). This isn’t the only episode that tracks Beth and Jerry’s failing marriage. The first season regularly put the parents on rocky ground, but they always seemed to be getting along at the end of the episode. “Rixty Minutes” and “Rick Potion Number 9” both feature tough times for the Smith marriage that end up with Beth and Rick re-affirming a type of love for each other. The second season doesn’t fix the problems with Beth and Jerry’s marriage, even if their relationship seems to be mending. Alien characters point out how toxic Beth and Jerry’s marriage is in both “Auto Erotic Assimilation” and “Big Trouble In Little Sanchez,” but both episodes end with Beth and Jerry still together. On the commentary track for the Little Rick episode, Dan Harmon starts out by admitting that the premise of Beth and Jerry’s toxic marriage was/is wearing thin, and that the next season of the show is going to make more progress on that front, specifically for Beth.“I thought that Jerry and Beth getting a divorce would be like Kenny being killed in South Park, like, when we first conceived the show… that it would never run out of shelf life that that was the kind of joke of like, oh all our parents were about to get a divorce,” says Harmon on the commentary track. “But, I think Millennial viewers are like, ‘I don’t understand, why don’t they just recycle more?’ So, season three we kind of move the Beth story forward.”To which Ryan Ridley and Justin Roiland responded: “Spoilers.”Morty Shorts and Time QuakesAccording to the commentary track for “A Rickle In Time,” the first episode of season two caused a lot of headaches because they hadn’t planned on picking right where the first season left off until after they started working on the second season. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are quick to point out that the solution to season three’s cliffhanger episode was already thought out when that episode was produced, so they hope to avoid the same problems the next time around. The first few scenes of the episode and the rules of splitting time went through a few changes as the episode was being developed. The original storyboarded episode didn’t split into different timelines because of uncertainty or because Morty and Summer touched each other. Instead “time quakes” would split the dimensions whenever there was “chaos.”The first version also revealed that Morty had started wearing short shorts during the months that time was frozen and Roiland ad libbed several minutes of a scene where shorts-related insults were thrown at Morty. When they changed the way the first act of the episode worked, the short shorts dialogue was cut.Eventually the writer’s room decided to change the trigger since “chaos” ended up being too vague on screen. “Uncertainty” proved to be an easier concept to grasp, and over a third of the episode had to be re-storyboarded. Because of all the changes, two versions of the “Rickle in Time” storyboards appear on disc one special features. There’s a Justin Roiland EP that includes “Get Schwifty” and “Head Bent Over”Love it or hate it, the improvised songs that appear in the episode “Get Schwifty” have the strange ability to get complete nonsense stuck in your head. It turn out, that’s exactly how they ended up in the episode. During one marathon recording session for background songs, Justin Roiland started freestyling lyrics over music the team had discovered in their sound banks. Everyone who heard them thought they were entertaining, so the songs were assembled into a collection they jokingly refer to on the commentary as an “EP.”Roiland knows that the vocal parts for “Get Schwifty” and “Head Bent Over” don’t necessarily match with the characters singing them. Both of those tracks were recorded in the improvised song session and caught the ear of enough Rick and Morty writers to make it into the main plot for a whole episode. Keith David, who guest stars as the voice of the President, did add additional vocals to “Head Bent Over” for the end of the episode, but otherwise the tracks that appear in the show are the originals.According to Roiland on the commentary track for “Get Schwifty,” he thought about re-recording the songs or recording new songs but it didn’t seem as funny as the improvised ditties they had on hand.
A whale with a message: say no to that plastic bottle Jacó blogger Magdalen López writes about the Central Pacific beach community’s efforts as part of a growing nationwide movement in Costa Rica to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics.#SinPajillaPorFavor is a campaign that calls on restaurants and other businesses to unite to reduce single-use plastics, given that 60 percent of it ends up on beaches, causing the death of marine species and birds. In Jacó, this campaign is directed by the Central Pacific Chamber of Tourism and Sustainable Commerce (CATUCOSO) in order to improve the image of the Central Pacific beach and raise awareness among residents about environmental issues. More than 60 hotels, restaurant and commerce business leaders have joined the effort.“Some of the partners are using boxes instead of plastic bags in their stores, including the Ferretería del Pacífico. In the case that plastic can’t be eliminated, various businesses are using oxo-biodegradable bags in order to give their clients a more eco-friendly option,” said Maria José Arguedas, treasurer for CATUCOSO.“The plan consists of completely ending the use of plastic: for example, the plastic bags that some supermarkets provide, straws, coffee stirrers, Styrofoam containers, plastic glasses, cutlery, bottled water and others,” Arguedas added. May 17, 2013 425 Views in Data, Government, Origination, Secondary Market, Servicing CoreLogic Case-Shiller Predicts Slowdown in Price Growth With housing prices on the rise across the nation, and double-digit increases in some markets, CoreLogic quashes any fears of another housing bubble forming any time soon. In fact, according to the “”CoreLogic Case-Shiller Home Price Indexes””:http://www.corelogic.com/about-us/researchtrends/corelogic-case-shiller-indexes.aspx?WT.mc_id=prnw_130516_vuJNf released Thursday, some markets experiencing rapid gains may soon see a slowdown or even reversal of recent trends. [IMAGE]After a 7.3 percent price gain in 2012, the nation’s housing prices will continue to rise over the next five years but at a slower pace, according to Case-Shiller. The indexes forecast a 3.9 percent annual increase through 2017. Many of the markets that underwent the greatest price depreciation during the housing crisis are now experiencing the greatest price appreciation. For example, home prices in Phoenix rose almost 24 percent year over year as of the fourth quarter of 2012. Prices in Miami rose 14 percent, and prices in Las Vegas rose 13 percent over the same time period. [COLUMN_BREAK]However, homes in these markets remain undervalued, and the price increases are being driven by investor demand. As homeowners looking to sell are encouraged by rising prices and as new construction picks up, increased inventory will dampen these rapid increases, according to CoreLogic. Also, rising prices will eventually ward off investors, and “”it is not clear if demand from first-time and trade-up buyers will immediately fill the void,”” said David Stiff, chief economist for CoreLogic Case-Shiller. As investors slow down, these markets may encounter waning price appreciation or even price depreciation, according to Stiff. Regardless, “”[e]ven if double-digit price appreciation were to continue in the former bubble metro areas, there is no reason to believe that new home price bubbles are forming,”” Stiff said. “”That’s because single-family homes in these markets are still very affordable,”” he added. Seven of every 10 metro areas tracked in the CoreLogic Case-Shiller indexes of more than 380 markets experienced rising prices in 2012. In 2011, the ratio was one in five. Many metros still experiencing price depreciation charted smaller declines over the year in 2012. For example, Long Island, New York, posted a 4 percent decline, while Virginia Beach, Virginia, posted a 2 percent decrease. “”We expect strong buying activity this spring will lead to stabilization of home prices in most lagging markets, resulting in rising home prices in nearly every metro area by the end of 2013,”” Stiff said. With summer approaching, many people will be embarking on new goals such as graduating from university with a good degree or losing some weight before an upcoming holiday. While we always start our goals with the best intentions, we often find that our motivation to continue fades over time. Researchers from the University of Manitoba in Canada, however, have recently offered a possible explanation for this; claiming that our source of motivation changes as we progress towards our goal.Their study further explored the theory of Regulation Focus originally proposed by Higgins in 1997. This theory states that there are two main drivers of motivation: promotion-focused or prevention-focused. Those whose goals are promotion-focused are driven to pursue their goals by hopes, aspirations and ideals of the future (getting a good degree). Those who are prevention-focused are influenced by a sense of duty, responsibility or obligation to something in the present (getting into that bikini). What the researchers in Canada found, is that an individual’s motivation and psychological states do not remain constant while working towards their goals. In fact, the researchers found that individuals will change their motivational drives from promotion-focused to prevention-focused half-way towards achieving their end goal.At first glance, this may seem like another psychological theory that seems irrelevant to everyday life. However, it’s not hard to find everyday examples of this theory in practice, the obvious example coming from today’s dietary and fitness crazes. Fitness, activity and diet trackers – available through various technology wrist-bands, watches and phone apps – allow us to track and visualise our goal’s progress.Initially, we are motivated by aspirations of becoming fitter and healthier (promotion-focused), and are encouraged by looking at the total number of steps increasing throughout the day, and seeing how many calories this has burned. Over time however, this is not enough, our motivation changes. Instead, we may become motivated by a responsibility to obtain a minimum number of daily steps, or to achieve a higher count than the previous day. This motivation can lead us into choosing to go for a walk after dinner, instead of watching TV, in order to ensure we reach our minimum number of total steps that day (prevention-focused).So, how can these findings help us achieve our goals and stay motivated? One of the main applications of these findings is the benefit of trying different motivational strategies, and being more aware of what drives us to achieve our goals. When setting goals, we should also identify our reasons for trying to achieve them; are we motivated by the thought of future change (promotion-focused)?Or are we driven by the desire to avoid or resist something (prevention-focused)?As well as monitoring and reassessing our goal progression, it may be beneficial to also reassess our motivators. Most fitness and dietary apps enable this process through a ‘Notes’ sections, where users can record any changes in drive. Similarly, if you’re currently working towards a goal but feel your progress is fizzling, perhaps you could take some time to reassess your different drives and change your motivational style, which may help you get back on track.Marios Adamou is a professor of psychiatry based in Yorkshire, EnglandYou May LikeFigLeaf Beta AppGet Maximum Privacy with Minimum EffortFigLeaf Beta AppUndoTruthFinder People Search SubscriptionOne Thing All Liars Have in Common, Brace YourselfTruthFinder People Search SubscriptionUndoTotal Battle – Online Strategy GameIf You’re PC User This Strategy Game Is A Must-Have!Total Battle – Online Strategy GameUndo Concern over falling tourism numbersUndoTurkish Cypriot actions in Varosha ‘a clear violation’ of UN resolutions, Nicosia saysUndoTwo arrested in connection with attempted murderUndoby Taboolaby Taboola
